With a penetrating vision and amazing quality control, Skull Disco carved a hybrid-genre niche that has yet to be filled. Some nameless form of mutant, tribal, dread: a teeming mix of minimal techno, world music, dub, and glitch. Ponderous, thudding riddims; skittering edits; Eastern instrumentation; jagged, techy synthesizers, heavily delayed vocals from Jamaica to India; grimey, modulated subbass and more tablas than you could shake a handballa at reverberate through cavernous dubbed-out atmospheres.
If you're already a fan, perhaps this mix, posted on the Skull Disco website will rekindle some fond memories. If you're new to the sound, now's as good a time to check it out. Either way, download the mix and check out the site.
Here I basically just write about whatever I'm into at the moment. Mostly it's music, but also some books and a good political rant every now and then, circumstances warranting. I'll post links to audio I think is worth downloading, but basically, it's just self-indulgence in the typical fashion of web 2.0 user generated content. This is blogging after all, a bare minimum amount of narcissism is implied, is it not?
If you've taken the time to read all of this you may as well check out some of my posts. And if you've gotten something from this blog or you think my writing sucks, I'm full of shit, etc.- why not reply or contact me at: firstname.lastname@example.org? I would sincerely love to hear from you, whoever you are...
