Diplo - Decent Work for Decent Pay

Admittedly, Wesley Pentz better known as Diplo is one of the dictators of cool that I’m always going on about. But when your crew’s (Hollertronix) parties help set off a craze as big as mash-up; you popularize entire genres that are marginal (Grime) or even completely unknown to the U.S. (Baile Funk); discover, date and DJ for a phenomenon like M.I.A. (regardless of the fact that she is way over hyped); and on top it all off your debut album gets released by Big Dada (subsidiary hip hop label for Ninja Tune) and is as dope as Florida; one could argue that your credentials for such a title are solid. I mean, he’s not some snotty journalist with a degree working for a “meta”-music site, he’s an actual DJ who’s tastes are club tested and crowd approved.

This release which is essentially a set of remixes is certainly worthy of The Hipster Runoff. Everyone from Black Lips to Claude Von Stroke, Kano to Spank Rock gets the Diplo treatment.

His remix of M.I.A.’s Paper Planes with Bun. B & Rich Boy is here as well as a Baile Funk(ed) out version of his own Way More: appropriately titled Way More Brazil. His remix of Daft Punk’s Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, which I’m luke-warm on is also included.

This album doesn’t officially drop until next month, but you can get it from the good people over at Hip Hop Bootleggers.

[edit: there must have been some complaints because it seems to be removed you should still check out the site though as it’s fucking great]
